We had a brilliant time bringing the set for Our Eyes Looking for God to life at the Barbican.
One of the biggest highlights was building the car and figuring out how to make it revolve. There was plenty of problem-solving and clever construction packed into that one!
The lamppost was another fun challenge, creating those playful sculptural shapes and making something practical feel properly theatrical.
We also loved working with designer Amanda Mascarenhas, who I actually know from university, which made this one extra special. Huge thanks too to Herbe Walmsley, Production Manager, for the fantastic support throughout.
Our Eyes Looking for God is a groundbreaking new Black British opera, bringing together theatre, music and movement to explore identity, state violence, love and Black British experience. The production was written and directed by TD Moyo, with music by Renell Shaw and set and costume design by Amanda Mascarenhas.
